This method is applied particularly in cases where the bearing capacity of the soil is weak and the load-bearing layer is located deeper below the surface. The purpose is to transfer the required bearing capacity to the competent soil layer. It can also be used by operating in cantilever mode to create steep slopes in narrow urban areas, as well as near intersections and highway edges.
